"REVERSE" PARKING OR "FREAKING-HEAD-FIRST" ?

u are nt alone dude.... I park cars everyday and yet i still suck at it

Pardon my starting another trivia.

I was unfortunate enough to have witnessed 3 incidents in the last months in one of those multi-storey carparks where the reversing car (ya, the one wanting to leave the carpark) struggled to leave the lot and in doing so, its bumper bumped the bumper of the car next to it. Next thing you know, the guilty drivers (women especially!!!!!) drove off nonchalantly, as if the knocks they felt were nothing out of the unusual.

The question here is do you think those drivers who park the cars "head first" are just lazy and a hazard to cars next to them? Why can't they just "reverse" park like 90% of us do?

I try my very best at all times to park my car next to the wall or pillar (better still in a single lot with 2 pillars!) so that my exposure to such nitwit drivers with such parking habit is halved. Still the risk is there.

Oh in case you are wondering what I did as a witness to those bumper-to-bumper incidents, I actually left a note on the victimised car windscreen stating the culprit's number plate/car make. [/list]

My mum parks head first and i always remind her for being the 1 out of 100.

head first not tested in TP leh .. so it is not taught as well.

Reverse parking is safer. For head in, you might not have a better view while moving out (reversing) from the parking lot.

especially on MSCPs, if you go out butt first you may not be able to notice other cars going straight.

Of course parallel harder, its easy to do a 1 shot straight reverse parking, but its damn hard to do even 2 point parallel parking. Ok, maybe cuz i suck in parallel driving.

In Singapore Carparks, I parked in a reverse order means the back in first.. But In malaysia i always park Head first..

Haha.. security concern.. so atleast when u park head first.. the robbery will not robbed ur car easily.. so like.. they have to quickly reverse it.. den put in 1st gear.. and.. by the time it might.. i repeat.. it MIGHT have time to stop them... hmm and i always park in malaysia parking lot in a confine areas.. hee.. so atleast ur car won't lost or being robbed easily....

This is an age old bad habit.

I know it is convenient and especially when people are in a rush - they'll simply nose-dive into an empty lot in some basement carpark of some shopping center or office building. After that, you'll may or may not see them struggling to get out.

Once I saw an idiot reversing out in Sim Lim Square's basement carpark; he reversed his brand new Renault scenic right over a center divider, scraping the undercarriage. He almost got stuck because his car partially raised by the divider - expensive repair after that I guess.

Yes, laziness and for ladies, it's easiness and convenience.

But these people usually do not know the hazard they pose, and anger of other motorists who's bumper they bumped and nonchalantly drive off.

I think everywhere in this world there will be people like these.

reverse parking only practiced by sporeans or ppl in countries w/o parking space... In aust, the locals ALL park head in... only ppl like us go there still reverse in... Smile

My mentality is that I would rather take the time and effort to position my car so that later, I can drive straight off.

Do what is difficult first, so later, it is easier.

Although I believe some would rather do easy things first, and struggle with the hard parts collectively later.

for those who head in first....pls...pls...pls....when U reverse out...reverse SLOWLY...cannot see 100% not that bad but at least reverse slowly out...people can see U come out and try not to langar U... Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

actually I find a lot of drivers following the car in front too close in CARPARKS...dunno why lor...go in carpark of course want to find and lot and park mah...they follow so close also no use...

for me I dont care one...I find my lot and signal with the arrow and engage reverse gear...if the one behind too close...that's his problem...shouldnt be so close in the first place... Twisted Evil

Here's another BAD HABIT of motorists here...

Out of 10 motorists looking for a lot in carparks, 8 will NEVER use their hazard lights to signal their intention to park when they found a lot. They just suddenly stop, and you see his/her reverse light, light up!

As a rule of my own, I always keep one car's length behind the one in front of me in carparks. I know, 95% chances are he or she, will not turn on hazard lights when a lot was found.

I also noted, some cars will overtake the one in front if the car keeps too much of a distance from the car in front. I think this is why people follow closely behind the first car in carparks.

Motorists here have a long ways to go in terms of driving manners.

My take is both ways are acceptable la....depending on the situation.

Like my case, I do head-in in morning at the multi-carpark near opit....tis will save time for myself and all those cars tailing behind me Very Happy

But at home, I will do r/v park coz I can take my own sweet time to park nicely ma.

So whichever "style" we fancy, we shd always do so civic-mindedly! Smile

I dun think head in is a correct parking method ..i felt the drivers are either too lazy or incapable in reverse parking. Wink
